Show jumping, unlike other equestrian events, is an event where you as a spectator are not required to be an expert in the field in order to recognize the winner. Basically, the horse that completes the course with the least faults is the winner!

Here's How It Works:
Competitors are scored in the first round by accumulating the least amount of the following faults:

  • First disobedience (run-out, refusal, circle) - 4 Faults
  • Obstacle knockdown - 4 Faults
  • Second disobedience - Elimination
  • Fall of horse/rider - Elimination
  • Off specified course - Elimination

After the first round, if there is a tie between competitors, a second round or jump-off will be set. The jump-off will consist of a shortened course in which some of the jumps will be raised. The competitors will then be scored as in the first round on faults as well as being timed. The competitor with the least amount of faults and the least amount of time will be declared the winner.

  • Power jumping over three vertical 2-sided fences starting at 3'6" in first round.
  • Maximum of four jump-offs.
  • Purse Divided among competitors left after a maximum four jump-offs
  • Optional jump-off to riders in the event of a tie.

Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences

  • To be judged on riders ability
  • The performance of the horse is not to be considered unless it is the result of the rider's ability
  • The picture the judge is looking for is that of a well-tailored, clean and neat rider, on a well-groomed horse, with a minimum of tack, in a balanced position on the horse creating as little burden for the horse as possible both on the flat and over fences.

  • Each obstacle carries from 10-100 points depending on its degree of difficulty.
  • The riders have 90 seconds to acquire as many point as possible.
  • They may choose any path they wish, they may jump from either direction and any one obstacle may be jumped twice.
  • No points are awarded for an obstacle knocked down
  • Should an obstacle be knocked down, it will not be rebuilt and no points will accumulate if it is jumped again.
  • Ringing the bell declares the end of the round.
  • If the horse is already taking off, this obstacle counts.
  • The competitor must then cross the finish line.
  • The competitor who has obtained the greatest number of points will be declared the winner.
  • In the event of a tie, the fastest time taken between the starting line and the finish line will decide.
  • In the even to a tie with points and time, there will be a jump-off with a fixed time of 40 seconds.
