A tradition since 1887… a legacy for the future

The first Exhibition was held in 1887 and it consisted of livestock exhibits which were displayed at the CPR stockyards and other exhibits such as poultry, grains, garden vegetables and preserves shown in a place called Government Hall. The purpose of this first Exhibition was to bring urban and rural people together.

What We Do

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is a not-for-profit Agricultural Society located in southeastern Alberta. We were established to provide the City of Medicine Hat and District with programs, events, facilities and are proud to be a cornerstone of the community we have become!

Annually, we produce a number of volunteer driven events. The Broncs & Honky Tonks Spring Indoor Rodeo is the kick-off to our rodeos as well as the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA). The Broncs & Honky Tonks takes place in the Cypress Centre, featuring a three-day rodeo, tradeshow and the Honky Tonks dance. We are part of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Tour in June. 36 drivers, along with their thoroughbred horses and outriders take to  our ½ mile track in one of the most exciting western heritage events in southeastern Alberta.

July is our busiest month, we begin with the crowning of our Rodeo Royalty followed by our All-Breed Horse Show, a local Medicine Hat concert, the Stampede Summer Jam and then the dust flies the last week in July at our Stampede.

We host the Olde Tyme Christmas Fair and Christmas Farmers’ Market in December, where the community can come together and tour through Pioneer Village as well as take part in Holiday festivities.

The Beef Pen Show & Cowboy Christmas tradeshow in December is growing annually. It is a cattle show for commercial and purebred breeders from all over western Canada to attend.
